A good friend, quiet, so sincere and loyal.  We enjoyed his company many times here in Kelowna and think of him often.  He left to soon.  Mike and Bonnie

Dean, Larry Austin and I went skiing at Sandpoint when we were 19 years old.  We did a lot of stuff together.  A great guy.

I noticed in today's Vancouver Sun that Dean's Mom Rae passed away in Kelowna on January 30th one day shy of her 97th birthday, daughter Shari was by her side. She lost Dean in 2003.

Dean was a friend who although very deliberate and hard working, also knew how to share a good laugh. We played pool many late nights at Gellinas' pool hall on Baker Street, sometimes snockered but both enjoying the competition. Nancy and I baby sat his young son and daughter in Vancouver when they were " knee high to a grass hopper. If any of you get to meet his son Steve, you'll be shocked as he looks identical to his Dad. In fact, I've called him Dean many times while with him only to catch myself and laugh. Of interest might be that Steve is an Oceanographer and full professor at UBC and is highly regarded and sought after worldwide for such studies. Dean would be very proud.

As Dean’s cousin, I have been comforted to read the comments that show others too have good memories of this wonderful man.  I have shared your messages with his family who have appreciated your kind words.  I think Don Rivers and Dave Hamilton saw a side of Dean that I didn’t know so well but I am pleased to know that they enjoyed some fun times with him.  I remember him more as Moira describes him.  I saw him last shortly before his death (pancreatic cancer) and he, knowing how hard this was on all of us, cheerfully focused on and spoke of everything but himself and the pain he suffered…such a dear soul who we miss so much.
