Dewey (Julius) Riesterer

Harley, or as Gord Rear and I called him, "Huck", was one of my friends at LVR, a big, funny, eccentric, bright and kinda goofy guy, who made wine when we were in Sea Cadets, loved home chemistry experiments and was just a good guy.

I last saw him in spring, 1983, on Baker St., just where the old Wood-Valance Hardware store used to be.

"Requisat In Pace", Huck..........

Since joining the website I have enjoyed scrolling thru the profile list, seeing many familiar names, remembering names that I had forgotten and reading about their lives since LVR. When I got to Harley’s name, I was almost floored when I saw the double asterisks by his name. It literally took my breath away.

Harley, (‘Huck’ as we all came to know him) and I met when we were in Grade Six at Elementary School in Fairview. We became close friends, our Fathers both worked for CPR, and we were best buds pretty well thru Junior High. We were still amigos in High School but kind of drifted in separate directions after that. He had a passion for chemistry and I recall more than one explosion the basement of our house that we finally convinced my Mother was large vehicles backfiring. He was a big guy with a heart to match, very intelligent and had a love of History, especially the war years. As my buddy Dewey Riesterer wrote, he was a pretty good winemaker and that skill carried on from Sea Cadets to many a Weekend Manoeuvre when we later served with the Army Reserve.

I will miss being able to meet with him and talk over old times.

To follow Dewey‘s lead I say, “Descansa en paz buen amigo”

I remember Harley well, the big teddy bear.  Good hearted.

RIP Harley
