I remember Andy so well, from Bob Green's excellent English 91 class; Bob was the BEST public school teacher I ever had; a very fine guy who was an RCAF veteran of WWII and had some very sad memories of that time.

Andy and I usually would vie to see who could answer the questions Bob would ask and he was VERY BRIGHT, erudite far beyond his years and wore the coolest "beat" clothes. I was SO jealous of his apparent sophistication and cosmopolitan air.

Years later, whrn Andy visited Nelson , he happened to wander into my Baker St. bookstore  and was surprised to find his "nemesis" from high school English 91 there. We had a good chat and then, that evening, I found him, Don "Stick" Steffenson, the best "Daily News" writer I ever knew with well-known Canadian professors and poets, Tom Wayman and Fred Wah, in the Hume Hotel pub.

These gentlemen, were  among the more interesting and literate conversationalists I have known and a fine night was had by all of us.....I never saw Andy again and he just died, back home on the Prairies, age 69, a few months ago.....published, award winning and honoured....a life well lived and a guy I really admired and liked.

...The day of his death, was a dark, cold day...    Wystan Auden

If I may quote from the 1964 LVR Mountaineer Yearbook, Andy's photo and write-up about him, Page 62:

"Andy Sukaski (as spelled)--Andy is a singer who can often be heard crooning away in the firehall.  Art Editor for the Yearbook, he plans a career in creative art after university."

May you be enjoying doing art wherever you may be!

Rest in Peace, Andy.

May the Angels keep you.

Prayers,

Pam LVR'64

I did not realize how far Andy had come and what a talented poet and writer he was until I followed him on the internet and became familiar with his accomplishments and the books, etc. he wrote. Wow.
